Optically Zeiss glass cutted by Kyocera is superb end of story. All systems do have their minuses and pluses. Well, has countless discussions of same sort.

I had a chance to try both systems plus H1. If you want or need to do Studio work a lot and Flash in general, the Hasselblad H1 might make a better choice with its leaf shutter.

Both of them had good film backs, the Contax had the Vacuum insert for 220, and the Macro accessories for the Contax are better than the Mamiya. The Metering on the Mamiya are a bit more critical than the Contax. On the other hand, the Mamiya body feel more solid ( and quite a bit heavier ) and with a fixed eye prism feel more robust ( only my own observation ). They had roughly the same coverage in term of focal lengths and varieties except Zoom where mamiya had a pair to cover the std and long reach while Contax had only the 45-90. Both of them are first rate tools, the Zeiss Optics are arguably producing better pictoral quality and operate better in MF/AF integration. I own neither of the system, but work with them routinely enough to voice a few option. It's simply a matter of the larger the media, the more data being recorded for the same scene. You will first find the result kind of plain, but after close examination, you will find that you are having vastly improved quality over the smaller formats. Let's put the conclusion out front - if you are coming into medium fromat from smaller ones ( 35mm or Digital ) It doesn't matter which system you choose.
